The editor: on the left the list of plays with filter buttons, in the middle the field with drawn routes, on the right name, number, game situations, category and the formation.
Drag a player, click a route, done. It saves by itself. There is no save button you could forget.

From screen to field in four steps

  1. Create a playbook Team, season, game format. Once.
  2. Draw plays Or take them from the library and adapt them.
  3. Print Playcards, call sheet, wristcoach inserts.
  4. Let them practise By the next practice the play sticks.

What it costs, and who pays for it

The whole team reads and practises along for free, however big it is. You only pay for drawing: 8,00 € a month for the entire club, including 5 seats for coaches and staff, teams and playbooks. If you need more, you pay 15,00 € and have any number of everything.

All three tiers at a glance

Five yards on paper are five yards on the field

Every number comes from the rulebook of the respective game format: the seven-yard rush line from the IFAF flag rules, the hash marks 20 yards from the sideline in the eleven-a-side game, the field just 32 metres wide in the seven-a-side game. Not from a program where someone converted the measurements. If you draw a route at twelve yards, you mean twelve yards.

Close to half a yard or to 45 degrees the line snaps into place; otherwise the point stays exactly where you put it. That sounds like a detail, and it is the difference between a drawing and a play a player can actually run.

A section of the field with labelled lines: no-running zone, rush 7 yd and line to gain, plus named routes such as Mesh, Check and Corner.
In flag, the rush line is at seven yards because that is where the rulebook puts it. In tackle there is none, and so Routetree draws none.

The program knows which rules you play by

Germany, international, USA, Italy, Spain, France: you pick your rulebook, and field size, rush distance, downs and ball size follow from it. Plus the competition class, because with some federations age really does change the rules.

If you switch a finished playbook over, Routetree does not quietly recalculate anything. It tells you which plays need a decision. A running play that is clean in Germany is a penalty under NFL FLAG rules.

What you hold in your hand on game day

Four print formats, all to scale and as real PDFs. You open the PDF, hit print, cut along the line. Done.

Wristcoach inserts

Three templates for the usual window sizes (youth 95 × 57 mm, standard 127 × 70 mm, large 133 × 83 mm), plus a free size with a cutting allowance. As a numbered list or as small diagrams.

Playcards

1, 2, 4, 6, 9 cards per page, with or without your club crest, in colour or black and white. Offense and defense kept apart.

Call sheet

A4 landscape, arranged by game situation: openers, 3rd & long, red zone. Two to four columns.

Single sheet

One play large on A4 with the coaching notes underneath. For the briefing before practice.

The numbers move along when you reorder. Otherwise the wristband points at the wrong play on game day, and nobody notices until it counts.

The same wristband, without the paper

There is a version for the Apple Watch: the playbook at your wrist, sorted by category. One turn of the crown and the next play is there.

In game mode the screen stays on the play you are reading. An ordinary app drops back to the watch face after a few seconds, and then a coach is standing between two plays, searching.

The plays come from the phone in your pocket and then live on the watch. No reception needed, no account on your wrist. Nothing is drawn on the watch, that stays with the big screen.

Included in the price. If you have the app, you have the watch version.

The Routetree app on iPhone: a play in the editor, with field, formation and routes.
The Routetree app on the Apple Watch: a play with formation and routes, with number and name above it.

On the left the phone, on the right the Apple Watch. Both show the same play, from the same playbook.

The team knows the play before you explain it

Every player picks their position and sees what they have to do, not the whole diagram. In field mode with hard contrast, so it stays readable outdoors.

Practice mode quizzes instead of prompting: show the diagram, guess the name. No time pressure, no leaderboard. The coach sees who knows which play cold.

Anyone who only watches costs nothing. The club pays one price, however big the team is.

Player view on the phone: name and number of the play, below it the position picker and the field for the chosen position.
Practice mode on the phone: a diagram and four answer options with play names.

On the left the player view, on the right practice mode.

No signal at the field? The playbook works offline

Whatever was open once stays there at the sports ground, even with no signal. That is exactly where you need the playbook, and exactly where an ordinary website gives up.

For the iPhone, Routetree is in the App Store, with its own version for the Apple Watch: the playbook on your wrist, sorted by category, and in game mode it stays on the play you are reading.

On any other device Routetree can be added to the home screen like an app. No store, no install.

Ready-made plays are already there

Ten worked-out plays in flag: Mesh, Flood, Verticals, Smash, Stick, Levels, Wheel, Screen, Snag and Slant & Flat. In tackle, the concepts of your form of the game, from Inside Zone to the Play-Action Boot. With formation, routes and a paragraph on what they are meant to beat.

Take them, rename them, fit them to your own team. Nobody starts from a blank page.

Your plays stay your plays

What you need to get started

A computer with a browser, half an hour and the names of your teams. Nothing more.

What coaches ask beforehand

Do I need internet at the field?
No. Whatever you have opened once stays on the device. It only goes when you sign out and after a new release of Routetree; the next time you are online it is back. So stay signed in and open the playbook once before you play without a connection.
Does this fit our game format?
Seven to choose from: flag 5 on 5, and tackle with 11, 9, 9 on a narrow field, 7, 6 or 5. You are asked when you create the team; after that the field, the formation and the rule notes are right by themselves. Every figure comes from the rulebook of that form and is not converted from another.
Do the inserts fit our wristbands?
Three templates are included: youth 95 × 57 mm, standard 127 × 70 mm and large 133 × 83 mm. If none of them fits, you enter your own window size and get the cutting allowance with it.
Does every player have to pay?
No. The club pays one price, not the individual players. The team reads along free of charge, however big it is.
Can other clubs see our plays?
No. Each team sees only its own playbook. Another club cannot get to it, not even through a forwarded link.
Can we bring over our existing playbook?
Not as a file. You redraw the plays once, and after that they are yours in clean measurements. The library takes the worst part off your hands: ten finished concepts are there, matching your format, with formation and routes. Nobody starts on a blank page.
Can we get back out?
Any time. Everything can be taken out as PDF and as an archive, and with a subscription as SVG too. If we part ways, reading and printing remain. Only editing is locked; nothing is deleted.
What does it cost?
The whole team reads and drills along for free, however many there are. You only pay for drawing: 8,00 € a month for the whole club, including 5 seats for coaches and staff. If you need more, you pay 15,00 € and get as many as you like. Set up an account and try it out. If you want to go into the season with it, we unlock it and settle up with the club.
What happens to our plays if we stop?
They stay yours. A limit here never locks anything that already exists, and you can download everything as a file at any time: playbooks, plays, formations, with all coordinates. No subscription, no request, one click.
We are a school. Does this cost anything?
No. A school team gets Routetree free, in full and without a banner on the printout. Pupils do not have to give a name, and at the end of the school year the access ends by itself. How to apply for it.
What can the free demo do?
Almost everything: draw, print, have the team practise, hand out seats. What is limited is the scope, namely 1 playbook with up to 8 plays. Printouts carry a “DEMO, not for game day” stripe so no demo insert ends up in a wristband on Saturday by accident. And the demo does not hand out SVG files, because the stripe could be removed from them in ten seconds. The coaching staff only sees the team’s learning progress with a subscription; it is counted all the same, so nobody starts from zero later. With a subscription all four fall away.
Do we have to give any details first?
Name, club and an email address for resetting the password. No payment details, no contract, no deadline that renews by itself.

In five minutes you have your first playbook

Account, club and first team in one step. After that you start drawing, without anyone having to unlock anything.
